Sex And The City – The Characters
If you’re going to watch Sex And The City to try to figure out exactly what “style” the main character, Carrie Bradshaw, is, then forget it. Carrie has no set “Style” and you’ll just drive yourself insane. As the most fashion-forward member of the group, Carrie’s closet contains an eclectic mix of vintage, retro, Gap and haute couture. The mix is quite outrageous and extremely fun! Featuring Manolos almost constantly, Carrie also offers up a different signature fashion statement every season. Beginning with her nameplate necklace in season 1 and continuing on with flower pins, Fendi bags, gloves, hats…..
Samantha Jones, one of the Fab Four, is a high-powered, high-class public relations executive. And, as such, she needs to dress professionally during the day. Not toooo professionally, mind you. Her suits are an awesome mix of vivid colors that go wonderfully with her blond hair and show off her killer body.
Pragmatic Miranda Hobbes has a more austere outlook on her daytime fashions. As a lawyer, she dresses in smart, tailored suits to maintain her professional image and get the job done. She’s also the most laid back of the four when it comes to weekend wear, prefering jeans and sweats to frilly skirts and stilettos. She can, however, when called upon, come up with some eyecatching evening wear that keeps up with the other girls just fine. And that red hair makes her a real stand-out in the crowd.
And then there is Charlotte. Charlotte York, whose wardrobe reflects her Park Avenue lifestyle. All pastels and coordinated, with matching accessories. Her crisp, refreshing take on fashion often makes her appear prim and sometimes grim, but watch when the girls go to Atlantic City! She can haute it up with the best of them!
And what about the men of Sex And The City? Certainly no discussion of the characters would be complete without including Mr. Big. Although his first name is finally revealed in the final episode, and we also learn his full name in the movie, we’ll still call him Mr. Big. And being the successful New York businessman that he is, we see him most of the time in Armani….or nothing!
Steve Brady, Miranda’s beau and future husband, is every guy’s guy. Jeans and a T-shirt are all it takes to make this man happy. In fact, in one of the earlier episodes, Miranda has to buy him a suit! Nothing at all wrong with that, I say. He’s cute, he’s charming, he has beautiful blue eyes and he believes in monogamy. How many guys do YOU know that fit that description?
Charlotte’s lawyer, and eventual soul mate, Harry Goldenblatt appears most often in suits as well. As a successful divorce attorney, that’s what he needs to wear to win his cases. Short, bald, hairy, and a little lacking in the social graces, he’s so dedicated to Charlotte that she eventually converts to Judaism so she and Harry can be married.
And, finally, there’s Smith. Samantha’s man. Jerry Jerrod. As far as I’m concerned, this man is like the English Leather man…he can wear English Leather…or nothing at all! An aspiring actor when Sam meets him, she changes his name and uses a little of her PR magic to make him into one of the most sought after dishes in New York!
