The Very Best All The Way – Plumbing Business Software Critique

I’ve been keeping some notes for the past five months and thought it might help some people if I reviewed it. Heck, maybe Intuit will read my review and change some of the most obvious complaints I have. The only reason I purchased this was because I was forced to so that I could download my banking information. I’m very disappointed in the new version. The new program works just like the old one! Nicely put, Quicken sucks.

To my surprise, and delight, Quicken did a splendid job loading all my accounts (and I have many of them: 8 credit cards from various Banks, 3 bank accounts, 8 investment and retirement accounts). In most cases, Quicken was able to set the online banking connections to my financial institutions. But then attempting to update credit card balances, import past investment and banking statements, and make it all work, another story. It was hours of frustration with no resolution. That being said I had read the reviews of Quicken 2011 and was actually nervous about making the change seeing that many people had nothing good to say. I have to say though that I have converted all my accounts including checking, savings, credit card, 401k, and stock brokerage accounts with no problems.

This junkware is nothing more than ads for other Intuit products. Fortunately, all you have to do is send these items to the recycle bin to be rid of them.

That being said the face lift on the new product is nice, the reports are good, but some tried and true features in 2008 are more difficult in 2011. For example I found it harder to create and edit pay checks in the new version.

Well, I hadn’t had installed for more than 10-15 minutes when I figured out I could use it to tap into my online banking and credit card accounts and it would automatically sync and import for me. I love that it has a bunch of different categories preloaded to help track expenses, and that it helps track our loans as well. Thank you Quicken and Amazon! I’m a salary man and occasional freelancer, renting an apartment with a long-term partner. I have no doubt that there is an overarching logic to this application, but it’s lost on me with this interface. Also, buyer beware if your investment brokerage isn’t a Quicken Partner (which is the only way automatic transaction downloading will work), because I have spent over an hour of each day since receiving Quicken trying to set up my 401(k) account manually, and I’ve failed each and every time. The process of sun setting older versions is annoying, but ultimately necessary I believe. This allows the product staff to focus on making new versions better vs.

I did an on-line chat with Quicken tech support for 30 minutes but they offered no solutions, and only inane explanations, so I asked for my money back and received a full refund a few days ago. This software is truly horrible. Not only did Quicken stiff me for the $50 price of the update, it then deprived me of the use of my online accounts. I uninstalled Q2011 and re-installed Q2008 (I had saved the 2008 data, because Q2011 also transmogrifies that into a different non-backwards-compatible format).

I am not happy with this version. I sent an email and the response I got from them was incorrect.

But when my computer died and I needed to get into my personal Quicken files, I first attempted to read the old Quicken file with my QuickBooks software – why not just set it up as another file and avoid the cost of a new Quicken license” OFFICE COFFEE MACHINE RENTAL.
